Best Austin Neighborhoods for Music Lovers

As the self-proclaimed Live Music Capital of the World, Austin has some great neighborhoods for music lovers. If you fell in love with Austin during your first trip to SXSW, you’re probably looking for an apartment in the best Austin neighborhoods for people who want to be in the center of the city in all its musical glory. For easy access to the best live music in the city, check out these Austin neighborhoods:

Barton Hills

Located in the southern area of Austin, Barton Hills is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the city and has easy access to Zilker Park–home of the famous Austin City Limits Music Festival. In addition to bringing you an epic music lineup each fall via ACL, Barton Hills is incredibly safe and just a short bus ride away from Downtown.

Downtown

If you want to live in the heart of Austin–and South by Southwest territory to boot–Downtown is where you need to be. Each spring, tens of thousands of people converge on this Austin neighborhood for the iconic SXSW music festival. The rest of the year, Downtown residents can enjoy the area’s nightlife scene and head to the local watering hole to catch some live music. You’ll also be within easy biking distance of the most beautiful parks and lakes in the city if you want to sit out with your guitar on a Sunday afternoon.

Sixth Street

A subset of Downtown, Sixth Street is truly the heart of live music in Austin. This seven-block entertainment district is packed with up-and-coming music venues, not the least of which is The White Horse–a classic Austin establishment. Although the area can get a bit rowdy on the weekends, if you want to be at the center of the hustle and bustle, start looking for apartments near Sixth Street.

Clarksville

Also known as Old West Austin, Clarksville is one of the more serene Austin neighborhoods for music lovers. Like Barton Hills, it is located near Zilker Park, so you’ll practically have backyard access to ACL. If listening to your favorite tunes on your iPod is more your speed, take a walk along the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail and stop by Auditorium Shores to pay your respects to the late bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughn.
