Charles North

Located between Penn Station and 22nd Street, Charles North is a vibrant neighborhood in the heart of the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. There are tons of restaurants that call this community home, but Charles North stands out for its hip galleries and performance venues.

The Load of Fun Gallery is a community-based institution that showcases the work of emerging and established artists. There are 18 studio spaces and multiple theaters that are operated under the Load of Fun network, including Run of the Mill Theater and the In Flight Theater. Charles North has many other art venues, such as Westnorth Studio, Strand Theater and Hour Haus.

Greenmount West

Another artful neighborhood in Station North is Greenmount West. Here, you’ll find Baltimore apartments, housing units, and studios that are home to many local artists. Greenmount West is teeming with galleries and theaters, plus it’s home to the Baltimore Design School and the Baltimore City Transformation School, which focuses on graphic arts and architecture.

Highlandtown

This Baltimore neighborhood has valuable resources for many of the city’s artists. There is a group of creative professionals, educators, and community organizers called the Creative Alliance that support the area by organizing a variety of events.

These include indie film screenings, dance performances and even family-friendly fun. Rather than hosting a traditional farmer’s market, Highlandtown is home to the “artket,” which includes studio tours and vendors that represent the vibrant art culture.

Bromo

Officially known as the Bromo Tower Arts and Entertainment District, this area has a unique history, as the inventor of the Bromo-Seltzer antacid built a 15-story tower within the neighborhood that is modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Italy. It still stands today and offers state-of-the-art studio space for literary and visual artists.

Additional venues include The Arena Players Repertory Theater, Everman Theater, Maryland Art Place and France Merrick Performing Arts Center. Bromo also has a number of independent artist collectives, such as EMP Collective, Current Gallery, Sub-basement Studios and more.
