Despite its vintage appearance, it’s actually a perfect neighborhood for young professionals. It’s a very short walk from the heart of downtown Indy, giving you access to everything from grocery stores to local art galleries, artisan shops and museums. After work, join your co-workers for happy hour at Nine Irish Brothers, and on the weekends grab some breakfast at Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles.

Broad Ripple Village

If you’re searching for a neighborhood with people your age, look no further than Broad Ripple Village. The area is filled with college students, thanks to nearby Butler University, and is just 20 minutes north of downtown Indianapolis.

This neighborhood certainly isn’t short on entertainment. There is an eclectic mix of bars and clubs, as well as delicious restaurants and fabulous shopping opportunities. For instance, the Monkey’s Tale is a hot spot known for its nightly live entertainment and beautiful outdoor patio space. The bar even throws themed pajama parties and karaoke competitions. It’s the perfect spot to hang out with friends on the weekend.

Broad Ripple is also very trendy—it’s home to the Indy CD & Vinyl record shop and the Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Company, where you can sample craft beers.

If you’re the nature type, the neighborhood provides a number of parks with paths for running, biking and walking. Head over to the White River if you’re looking to kayak or canoe with friends.

Mass Ave Arts District

Mass Ave’s tagline is “45 degrees from ordinary,” so with this neighborhood, you know you’re getting something truly different.

Driving to work, the grocery store, a restaurant, etc., can really be a drag when you factor in traffic and parking. The best thing about the Mass Ave neighborhood is that it’s extremely pedestrian-friendly. Walk from your apartment to a number of restaurants, shops, nightclubs, bars, galleries and theaters.

If you’re into trendy, eclectic boutiques, you’ll love this neighborhood. Stout’s Shoes, for instance, is the nation’s oldest shoe store, and the neighborhood is also home to Silver In The City/At Home In The City, which offers silver jewelry along with several unique gift items.

The Mass Ave Arts District offers plenty of entertainment opportunities. Head over to the Phoenix Theatre to enjoy a show, or experience the hilarity of improv comedy at ComedySportz Indianapolis.

Another special attraction you’ll find in this neighborhood is Three Dog Bakery. Established in 1989, this shop is actually the world’s first bakery that was opened for dogs. Bring your pup in to enjoy all-natural, tasty treats. Fido definitely approves of the Mass Ave Arts District, that I can be sure of.

Short on milk? Need to pick up a prescription? There are plenty of convenient amenities nearby as well, such as Walgreens and Marsh Supermarket and Pharmacy.

Canal & White River State Park District

This neighborhood doesn’t just offer a stunning view of the downtown Indianapolis skyline, it’s filled with attractions, public art, unique cafes, music festivals and more. There’s a canal that runs through the center of the neighborhood, and it offers the perfect place to stroll through town.

You’ll never run out of fun things to do in the Canal & White River State Park District. The area offers truly unique entertainment options that you can’t find anywhere else. Get a taste of Venice without actually leaving home by taking a ride down the canal in a gondola, or pay a visit to the Lawn at White River State Park—a large concert venue that has featured David Gray, John Fogerty and Guster.
