Pack Essentials
Depending on the amount of time that your pet is going to be in the car, you should pack the things that they may need, like food, water and medication. You don’t want to be stuck without food for your furry friend when you’re in the middle of a long journey. The brand of food that they’re used to may not be available, and it’s not a good idea to introduce them to new foods–especially in the car. Be sure to pack other items like a first-aid kit, grooming supplies, toys, collars and tags.
Put Cats in a Carrier
Cats are small and are able to fit into tiny areas in the car. Keep them out of trouble by putting them in a carrier at all times. Not only will your feline be more comfortable, but you’ll have peace of mind knowing that they’re safe in the back and you can keep your eyes on the road. Put the carrier in one place by pulling a seat belt over it.
Never Leave Your Pet Alone
Even if you’re just going into the gas station, it’s never a good idea to leave your pet alone. Always have a plan so that they’re with another person.
Take Breaks
Just like humans, animals need to get out of the car every once in awhile to stretch their legs and go to the bathroom. Of course, dogs need more frequent breaks than cats. Stop about every two hours for water, treats and maybe a toss or two of a ball.
