There’s nothing quite like coming home to a hot meal at the end of a long day, but if you live alone, it’s up to you to make this happen. When you’re living on your own, you should learn some tips for cooking for one to ensure that you’re always satiated–without wasting food in the process. However, this can be difficult if you’re not a natural cook and find even the easiest kitchen tasks to be a challenge.
Whether you already have a couple of helpful cookbooks lying around or you don’t know where to start, there’s no better time to learn than now. Here are some quick dish ideas that can be whipped up on a weeknight or prepared on a lazy Sunday afternoon when you desire something delectable.
1. Individual Pizza
Cooking for one can be made simple by opting for an individual pizza. Simply purchase a pre-made crust, along with a can of marinara sauce, a bag of shredded mozzarella cheese and toppings of your choosing. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Unwrap your crust and add about 1 cup of sauce to the pizza, spreading it evenly. Add your toppings and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese on top. Once the oven is ready, pop it in for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese and toppings have cooked.
2. Caesar Salad
Who says salads have to be boring? When you’re cooking for one, the sky’s the limit. Start by shredding up pieces of Romaine lettuce. Toss the lettuce with a mixture of olive oil and minced garlic. Add croutons and Parmesan cheese. Incorporate a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice for some kick, and you’re ready to chow down.
For this elegant meal, boil linguine until al dente. Drain the pasta thoroughly before placing it onto your plate. Crack open a jar of pasta sauce and add to your pasta. Sprinkle salt, pepper and basil flakes for additional flavor. If you want to make the meal truly special, bring home some freshly baked Italian bread from your local bakery. Worse case scenario, they have frozen garlic bread available in the freezer section of your grocery store if you’re in a jam!
