Grilled Shish Kabob Recipes

It’s almost time for the summer barbecues and pool parties! Rather than stick to the standard of dogs and burgers, grilled shish kabobs are an exciting but simple alternative. Give these simple shish kabob recipes a try, to really impress your friends!

Steak & Potato Shish Kabobs

These grilled shish kabobs couldn’t be any easier to make. Gather the following ingredients: boneless sirloin steak, sweet peppers, red onion, and some red potatoes. If you want to add some seasoning, you can make a glaze with red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, or even steak sauce.

On your skewer sticks, stick the meat and veggies on in your preferred order. If you wish, brush your glaze over the skewers as they cook. Plan to cook for about 15 minutes total, flipping the shish kabobs at least once.

Shrimp & Pineapple Shish Kabobs

This simple combination is quick and flavorful. For the most basic grilled shish kabob, you’ll need a pound of jumbo deveined shrimp and a pound of fresh pineapple. If you want to make a marinade, you can mix a few tablespoons of pineapple juice and orange juice.

Alternate shrimp and pineapple on your shish kabob and place them on the grill for about 10 minutes, basting with the juice marinade if you wish. Turn the shish kabobs at least once, but make sure the shrimp is completely opaque and cooked through before consuming.

Chicken & Veggie Shish Kabobs

Use a hodgepodge of the vegetables that are overflowing during these warm months: bell peppers, zucchini, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, onions, or whatever combination of vegetables you choose. Cut chicken breast into one-inch cubes for your skewers. These shish kabobs are all about colors, so add your chicken and vegetables in the order that you like best. Drizzle with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and oregano.

Grill 10-12 minutes on each side, making sure the chicken is golden brown and done.

BBQ Chicken (or Pork) Shish Kabobs

Another simple, yet tasty, combination of flavors. Grab your favorite BBQ sauce and about 1/4 cup of orange juice to make a marinade. Cut up some bell peppers and cut your meat into one-inch pieces. Marinade the peppers and meat for a couple of hours and save the extra to baste the skewers as they cook. Grill the skewers 10-12 minutes, making sure to flip them at least once to make sure they are fully cooked.

Spicy Tofu Shish Kabobs

Every party needs a vegetarian food option. These spicy shish kabobs use extra firm tofu as the protein. Make your marinade with a mixture of sriracha sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, sliced jalapeño pepper, and a little salt and pepper to taste. Put large chunks of tofu on skewers with mushrooms, zucchini, summer squash, and bell peppers. These shish kabobs should be marinated for at least an hour so that the tofu can absorb the seasonings; plan accordingly. Put your kabobs on the grill for about 10 minutes, cooking until the tofu is crisp around the edges.

Grilled shish kabobs are one of the easiest party foods that you can make. There are also limitless combinations of meats and vegetables. Impress your friends and family while entertaining at home this summer.

Hot Tip:  You can also have a BYOM (bring your own meat) party, and provide veggies and fruit for DIY skewers.
