It’s the time of the year when our cities are illuminated by bright lights, the smell of fresh pine lingers in the air, and the sounds of carols can be heard in every department store. From New York’s famous Christmas tree to America’s “Christmas City” in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the anticipated holiday season can seem a bit overwhelming to some. Although our cities may be in the holiday spirit, are our homes just as festive? We did a survey to find out how renters feel about decorating for the holidays.

According to our recent holiday survey, 22 percent of renters confess that they feel no need to decorate their apartments at all! However, the vast majority of renters, 85 percent, appreciate holiday decorations in the common areas of their apartment buildings.

The holiday spirit remains firmly in tact with the majority of Americans, 81 percent, decorating their homes in one way or another. Of those who do choose to decorate, 62 percent say that they are festive but not over the top, 7 percent display their holiday cards but little else and a very merry 13 percent say they go all out with wall-to-wall holiday decorations!

If you’d like to decorate your home but forgot to leave room for the added expense this year, consider budget-friendly alternatives.

DIY ornaments are a creative way to add a personal touch without having to cut into your holiday shopping funds. If you don’t have time to trim the tree, consider an edible tree display. After all, what’s better than spreading the holiday spirit and being able to eat it too!
