You don’t always have to leave your apartment to enjoy a drink or two with friends. Creating your very own home bar is a great way to be safe, be social, and save money.

[How to Have a Social Life on a Budget]

Skip those expensive watered-down cocktails and opt to stay in where you can lounge, catch up with friends, whip up your own drinks, and just relax after a long day. These stylish home bar ideas will help you get your apartment’s beverage area up and running in no time:

Closet Transformation

If you have a closet you’re not using, you can transform the small space into the perfect compact bar. After all, you don’t need lots of space in order for your bar to be both functional and stylish. Use the closet’s shelving to organize all of your bar supplies such as glassware, bottles, trays, corkscrews and bottle openers.

To make the space appear larger, place mirrors on the walls to reflect light. As for lighting, you won’t have to spend a fortune to hard-wire your closet. Instead, just use battery-powered push lights to cast the perfect soft glow.

Repurpose a Bookcase

If you have a bookcase, you have a home bar. Tuck a bookshelf into the corner of your apartment’s living room and organize each shelf appropriately: one can hold glassware, another can be designated for putting decor on display and another can hold all of the alcoholic beverages.

Place cabinetry or a vanity on either side of your bookcase for extra storage and counter space. Decorate your bookcase/bar by painting it or wallpapering the back of the shelves.

Use a Flea Market Find

Head to the flea market or thrift shop and pick up an old desk or cart that can be transformed into the perfect home bar. The possibilities are really limitless.
