Dogs are the loveable partners of millions of people. Those furry canines cheer us up on bad days, make us laugh and bring hours upon hours of enjoyment. It’s only right that they get the best treatment. If you can’t afford a trip to the pet spa or a luxurious chew toy, try making some homemade dog treats in your dog-friendly apartment. Here are two of our favorite recipes:

Peanut Butter and Banana Treats

What you’ll need:

  • 1 peeled banana

  • 1 whole egg

  • 1 cup oat flour

  • 1/2 cup of peanut butter

  • 1/2 cup of rolled oats

First, mix your flower, peanut butter, oats and egg in a large bowl. Add the peeled banana until the mixture has a doughy consistency. Use a spoon to make 20 balls and place them on a cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 to 45 minutes. Make sure the treats are cooled completely. To preserve their freshness, keep the treats in an airtight container in a cool place. If you plan on reserving them for a later date, you can put them in your freezer.

Homemade Dog Biscuits

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of all purpose wheat flour

  • 1/2 cup of chicken stock

  • 1/4 cup of brewer’s yeast

  • 1 1/2 cup of canola oil

  • 1/4 cup of wheat germ

Mix your flour, chicken stock and canola oil in a large bowl. Sift in the brewer’s yeast and wheat germ until the mixture forms into a workable dough. Prepare a cutting surface by lightly adding flour to a cutting board. Roll out the dough until very thin. Use a cookie cutter of your choice, preferably one that won’t confuse your human friends. Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the biscuits to dry completely. Once dry, you can store the treats in an airtight container. Keep them in a cool area.
