How to Make a 3D Snowflake

Bring some of the magic of snow indoors with this 3D snowflake. Don’t worry, it’s much easier than it looks. Check out this video and step-by-step instructions to learn how to make a snowflake yourself:

1. Gather Supplies

First, gather your supplies to make your 3D snowflake. All you need is six pieces of paper, scissors and tape.

2. Cut each paper into a square

Cut each paper into a square. To do this, fold one corner diagonally so that it lines up with the top of the paper. It should create a triangle shape.

Cut the extra rectangular edge off, and you have a square!

3. Fold the square into a triangle

Keep the square folded so that it looks like a triangle. Make sure you place the triangle with the fold closest to you and the top of the triangle away from you so that these instructions apply. Fold the left corner of the triangle across to the right corner, so that you create a smaller triangle.

Draw three small lines equal distance from each other on the bottom of the triangle when it’s in this position:

4. Start Cutting

Grab your scissors because it’s time to start cutting!

Here’s where it gets tricky. Use the small lines on side B as a marker to start cutting, and cut toward side A.

When you’re done, it will look something like this:

5. Form a diamond

Unfold the triangle so that it looks like a diamond.

Starting in the center, fold the two innermost flaps toward each other so that they form a tube and then tape them together like this:

6. Fold the flaps

Flip the snowflake over, and repeat with the next innermost flaps. The tubes will get larger and larger as you go. Continue to alternate until there are four tubes.

Your snowflake should now look like this:

7. Repeat and connect the pieces

Repeat with the other five pieces of paper so that you have six total rolled pieces. Now all you have to do is connect the pieces together!

To do this, use tape or a stapler to connect the edges one by one. Make sure that all the pieces are facing the same way. Add some tape or staple each snowflake arm to its neighbor so that the snowflake will stay together.

8. Hang it as a decoration

Now that you know how to make a 3D snowflake you can hang it as a decoration, use as a centerpiece or simply show it off for all your friends to see.
