Recycling in Las Vegas

Las Vegas renters who strive to live an eco-friendly lifestyle have something to get excited about, as recycling is going to become a whole lot easier. More than 200,000 homes in Clark County, Nevada, will be fitted with one large recycling bin instead of the red, white and blue containers that were previously provided.

This news can be even more exciting to those who live in a Las Vegas apartment because recycling is often more difficult for those living in multifamily buildings. However, there is another component that may limit an apartment dweller’s access to recycling receptacles.

Republic Services, the waste collection company, has offered a recycling program since 2010 in the area. However, only 20 percent of residents in the 750 units that are eligible for the service have registered for it. This may be because there is a separate fee involved. For many building owners it comes out to less than $1 a month for each resident, however it may still be a deciding factor for some apartment landlords.

So if you live in a Las Vegas apartment, talk to your building owner to see if you can get a recycling system added near your trash cans. And if you already have one in place, it may soon be changing to an easier setup.
