My Favorite Wine Accessories

Drinking wine is one of my favorite hobbies (drinking wine is a hobby, right?), and I’ve collected quite an array of wine gizmos and gadgets over the years. Whether you’re looking for a gift for your favorite wino or just stocking your own bar (no shame in that), here are my four favorite wine accessories:

Electric Wine Bottle Opener

Why fatigue myself with a traditional wine bottle opener when I can instantly open my vino with a simple push of a button? A gift from my parents, this wine bottle opener has seen plenty of use and quickly became my go-to wine accessory. There are many options out there for electric wine bottle openers, but I own the Waring Professional Cordless Wine Opener. I love it because I’ve had it for years and it still holds a charge for months. As a bonus, it comes with an easy-to-use foil cutter. Available at Wayfair, $37.

Wine Decanter

You can get a wine decanter in just about any size, shape or style you can imagine. When my husband and I were registering for wedding gifts, we fell in love with this Etched Globe Spirits Decanter, so we were very excited when it arrived on our doorstep. In addition to being a great conversation piece, a wine decanter aerates the wine, which simply means exposing it to air. I won’t pretend to be an expert on the subject, but letting red wine “breathe” is supposed to improve it’s taste. As a side note, this decanter is very fragile, so handle with care. I’ve almost broken it more times than I can count. Available at Wayfair, $50.

Wine Aerator

Don’t want to wait for the traditional decanter to do it’s thing? Me either. A handheld aerator does the trick instantly. My Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator has a special place in my heart because my husband gave it to me as a Chanukah gift only minutes before he proposed. Sentiment aside, a handheld wine aerator is compact and easy to use–you just pour the wine through it right into your glass. Available at Amazon, $25.

Wine Bottle Chiller

The most recent addition to my wine accessory collection is this Ivory Marble Wine Cooler. I’ve been drinking a lot of white wine this summer, so it was a great (inexpensive) investment. The best feature of this wine cooler is that you don’t need to use ice. Marble is an excellent insulator, so you simply put the chiller in the freezer for an hour before use. Your wine stays chilled and the bottle stays dry; it’s a win-win. Available at Crate and Barrel, $30.
